Throughout this term, the assignment that I benefited from the most was the lip sync animation. It was also the most challenging task in this unit. Here are some of my thoughts and feedback.
First, lip sync animation requires syncing with voice, which was not present in my previous assignments. This added an extra challenge in keeping the visuals and audio in sync. I first recorded an audio clip and then started drawing in Clip Studio Paint. However, I encountered some problems during the animation process. Some pronunciations were unclear, and some words were spoken too fast, making it difficult to match the visuals with the audio. Because of this, I couldn’t match the lip movements precisely to each individual word. Instead, I adopted a new approach by combining two words into a single syllable and animating the lip sync based on that syllable.
Second, this exercise tested multiple skills, including character design, acting, color selection, and even background design. It felt like creating a small stylized independent animation on my own. I had made independent animations before, but after a few months, doing this type of project again was both a progress and a challenge. To prepare, I researched many acting references, including movement rules and emotional expressions, before starting my drawings. During the drawing process, I continuously made adjustments, trying to add more details to make the visuals more refined and engaging.
Another important challenge is personal style. This animation serves as a foundation for our future projects, helping us develop our own artistic style. We could experiment with different techniques and methods to complete this task, making it a great opportunity to explore our personal artistic style.I personally really like cartoon-style backgrounds and characters, so after researching some color-block backgrounds, I added a background to the animation to enhance its richness.
In conclusion, I have gained a great deal of knowledge and skills from this lip sync animation practice. It has allowed me to improve my ability to synchronize visuals with audio, refine my animation techniques, and experiment with different artistic styles. This assignment has been a highly valuable experience that has contributed significantly to my personal and professional growth.
